The AFG was formed in 1985 to promote the forging industry by bringing to the attention of engineers, students and buyers the inherent advantages of using forgings. The group also aims to provide technical seminars and training courses to its members in order to insure the latest developments in forging technology are widely known and utilised.
The AFG actively supports and participates in forging research in collaboration with the Commonwealth Government research establishment CSIRO Division of Manufacturing Technology. Overseas contacts are maintained with other forging groups and associations which allows members to access information not normally available to them. This network has led to a strong forging industry with its member companies dedicated to innovation, quality and customer service. The AFG makes annual awards in various categories for outstanding service, plus a special award for the most innovative forging during that year. Our current member list includes specialists in all aspects of metal forging, from simple nuts and bolts to complex aerospace and military applications. The larger companies are major suppliers to the automotive industry both in this country and overseas. As well as expertise the Australian Forging Industry is well equipped with world class machinery suitable to satisfy the unique demands of the local industry. |
